Screenings are important because many times these diseases do not cause you to have symptoms until the condition is severe. Our screenings are available to anyone who wants to be proactive about their health. The screenings are all non- invasive, painless, and are performed by our in-office ultrasound technicians who are Registered Vascular Technologists.
STROKE SCREENING:
HOW DO WE SCREEN YOU?

- This screening is completed by having a carotid ultrasound performed on your neck.
WHAT IS THE PREPARATION?
-
- There is no special prep for this test.
- You will want to wear an open collar shirt.
HOW LONG DOES THE SCREENING TAKE?
-
- About 10 minutes.
WHAT DOES IT TELL ME?
-
- The ultrasound screen will reveal any signs of plaque formation or blockage of the main blood vessels that carry blood to your brain. It will also reveal any evidence of severe narrowing of the blood vessels.
BENEFICIAL IF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING ARE TRUE:

- Prior stroke
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes
- High cholesterol levels
- Heart disease
- Known peripheral vascular disease
- History of smoking
- Family history of stroke
ABDOMINAL AORTIC ANEURYSM SCREENING:
HOW DO WE SCREEN YOU?

- This screening is completed by having an ultrasound performed on your abdomen.
WHAT IS THE PREPARATION?

- Nothing to eat or drink, except water, 8 hours prior to the screening.
HOW LONG DOES THE SCREENING TAKE?

- About 10 minutes.
WHAT DOES IT TELL ME?
-
- An abdominal ultrasound will reveal the size (diameter) of the aorta and/or any evidence of aneurysmal formation (bulging of the vessel). It may also reveal any evidence of plaque formation or narrowing (stenosis) of the abdominal aorta.
BENEFICIAL IF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING ARE TRUE:

- Age 60 or older
- High blood pressure
- History of smoking
- Family history of abdominal aortic aneurysm
PERIPHERAL ARTERIAL DISEASE (PAD) SCREENING:
HOW DO WE SCREEN YOU?

- This screening is completed with a specialized machine that takes blood pressures and measures the blood flow in your legs.
WHAT IS THE PREPARATION?

- Wear loose fitting slacks, a shirt with short sleeves and no hose.
HOW LONG DOES THE SCREENING TAKE?

- About 10 minutes.
WHAT DOES IT TELL ME?
-
- • The screening will reveal evidence of possible blockage or narrowing of the arteries that supply blood to your legs.

- • Fatigue and/or pain in leg muscles with walking or exercise
- • Heart disease
